Drake started 2013 off with a bang by releasing his lead single “Started From The Bottom” and the visuals to accompany the song. The visuals immediately had everybody talking as the video looked very dope and most of all, FUN! It was clear that a lot of time, money, and thought was put into the making of the video and this helped to secure it as an instant fan favorite. Here we are months later and the “Started From The Bottom” video is already snagging plenty of nominations. The 2013 MMVA’s will take place on Sunday, June 16th in Toronto. In this interview, Chef KayKay shares how she first came to cook for Drake. She also goes on to say that she has been cooking for him since the Super Bowl and that’s all thanks to Chase N Cashe. You can catch the excerpt from the interview below.

Interviewer : I was on Drake’s Instagram for another story about “YOLO”—which is a whole different thing—and I saw your picture. How did you end up in his kitchen?

Chef KayKay: I ended up in Drake’s kitchen because the day before the Super Bowl, a friend of mine, Chase-N-Cashe, he’s a producer, he DM’ed me, like, “Yo, I need this, I need your number, I’m trying to book you for something. Hit me back.” We talked… [and] he’s like, “Yeah, it’s this party. It’s this amount of people.” And I’m like, “Yeah, I can do it.” We talked a little bit more. He’s like, “Okay, it’s for Drake.” And I’m like, “Oh okay, cool.” From there we did it like that, we made the transaction happen.

The next day, I went to the house—and this was one day, one day I did a party for 100 people, alone. So I was just busy, busy, busy. I got there and I went to his house and I met him, and that was that. I met him, and he liked me and I liked him. It was very mutual as far as the feeling. You can meet somebody, you can meet celebrities or you can meet certain people, and it’s not genuine or you can just meet them and you can just say “Hi” and say “Bye.” Or, “Thanks for coming out. Thanks for doing this for me.”

But it wasn’t like that. It was more so like, “Oh, your food is real good… Oh okay, I’ve been looking for a chef… Oh okay, well, let’s exchange numbers.” It went like that, it wasn’t just like, “Oh, thanks for coming out.” It was more cordial meeting. So from there we just kept in contact, and… when he would come out here, he’d hit me, and I’ve been going back and forth to his house since the Super Bowl. That’s how that happened.

Over the course of the weekend, the picture spread like wildfire and thus began the photoshopped pictures. Drake has been photoshopped on the soccer field, in space, the emoji keyboard, walking on water, and more. Below you can find some examples of what I’m referring to. I’m sure you’ve seen the pictures all over instagram and Twitter. Drake even joined in on the laughter and instagram’d the picture of him on the soccer field with the caption “FIFA God”. From pictures of others on set, it seems as if the “No New Friends” video has a 90′s theme attached to it. Mack Maine was seen rocking Coogi while Rick Ross was in his Sergio Tacchini tracksuit. It’s looking like the “No New Friends” video is sure to be a classic!

Today Drake was spotted on the set of Anchorman 2 in New York alongside Will Ferrell and Christina Applegate. The movie is a sequel to the hilarious comedy “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy” that came out in 2004. Other cameos in the film include Kristen Wiig, Kanye West, Amy Poehler, and Tina Fey. Drake brought Busta Rhymes out on the Club Paradise tour last year in New York and again on New Years in Miami. Since they are both on the same label many have wondered if the pair would collaborate. Well, it looks like it just might happen. According to Busta, he has a song with Drake over a Dilla beat that his half-finished. Let’s hope this goes through and everything works out! Check the excerpts below to see what Busta had to say on both being inspired by Drake and the collaboration.

Being Inspired By Drake

You joined Lil Wayne’s YMCMB family in 2011. What has YMCMB done for you, and what could they do better?
Number one, I’m inspired by the Weezy and the Drake talent. Part of the reason I’ve been able to do this for so long is because of the excitement you continue to feel since day one, other motherfuckers being dope. Like, you feel you could be just as dope or better. You aspire to do that; you use these guys as inspiration. And it’s all respect! Respectable competition. I’m a fan first. When I see Drake, when I see Wayne work, Shanell – she hasn’t put out an album yet, but I’ve watched her work – I’m a super-fan of that. Mystikal, I’m happy they signed him! [Pause] I even think Nicki’s incredibly brilliant. Beyond that, I love what they represent as a movement, and I love the camaraderie that we’ve had. Me and Bird and Wayne, Slim, have always rocked with each other for the past 12 to 15 years! I just think the respect organically built throughout the years has been consistent. That alone has done a lot for me, at this stage of my career. I’ve done stuff with people I didn’t really have that great relationship with, and gotten amazing results. Now, to rock with motherfuckers that you really cool with? Can you imagine the results that be coming from some shit like that?

 On Collaboration

And yet, we’ve never heard you do anything with Drake – why is that?
Um . . . and you haven’t heard anything with me and Nicki. “Roman’s Revenge (Remix),” that was something I did on my own. It wasn’t like an official remix, so technically, we haven’t gone in to do a record neither. So, Drake and Nicki, we haven’t gone in, no. 

Is that something that’s potentially in the works, or . . . ?
Yeah, of course. It usually happens when the times are right or when the idea is right.

Have they approached you before and it just didn’t work out?
No. We’ve talked before. I’ve had several conversations about doing records with Drake, we’ve actually been in the studio trying to fuck around. Same with Nicki. It just . . . when we start an idea, sometimes you get distracted. The stars just hasn’t aligned yet for that to actually happen. I think also, schedule. They’ve been shaking consistently for the last two, three years, putting out an album a year. They’ve been touring, ripping and running. And then when they’re down, she’s busy taping this American Idol shit and all of that; Drake is working on a new album. It’s just hectic, hectic schedules. You can definitely look forward to something eventually coming together, us collaborating. I have something that’s actually halfway done with Drake on a J. Dilla beat. It’s incredible.

And that’s for your project?
Yeah. So hopefully we get to finish this the right way so we can share it.

A couple of weeks ago Drake threw everyone for a loop when DJ Khaled released the song “No New Friends” which features Drake, Lil Wayne, and Rick Ross. The song is a remix to Drake’s lead single “Started From The Bottom” which released earlier in the year. It looks as though they are sticking to the script as the visuals for the 2011 DJ Khaled summer hit “I’m On One” were also shot in Miami. Drake is taking us back to the 90′s as he was on set rocking a Dada shirt. You can catch a couple of pics from on the set below.
