Thursday night when fans rushed over to iTunes to pre-order Nothing Was The Same they were treated to a surprise when they saw that Wu-Tang Forever was available to buy. The song which features a sample from Wu-Tang’s “It’s Yourz” left many curious about what the group would think about Drake paying homage to them.
An exclusive interview with VIBE, original Wu member U-God talked about how he’s been “bigging up Drake for a while,” and how the track was a positive look. He also revealed that The Clan has recorded a remix to the song in Europe earlier this summer. Check out some excerpts from the interview below.
On Recording The Wu-Tang Forever Remix:
“They wanted us to remix it and get on there [so] you gon’ probably hear another one with us on it,” says U-God, shortly after landing in San Francisco to perform at Rock The Bells on Sunday. “Meth did his verse—we all did our verses. I wrote my rhyme in probably 15, 20 minutes. We were moving so fast we only had about four hours of studio time. If I had some time to really sit down and get juicy with it, I probably could’ve got juicier with it. But I still do a nice one, I still do a real banger.”
On Drake Paying Homage:
“I’ve been bigging up Drake for a while,” says U-God, whose dropped his Keynote Speaker LP in July. “Plus he [sampled] the song that me and Rae jumped off so it made me feel real good. I’ve been in the game a long time and I really don’t get that much love. It’s positive.”
