With Drake topping all the charts in the U.S., his number #1 status in Canada should come as no surprise. ‘Views’ claims the honor of most popular album of 2016 in Canada.
Firstly, Drake’s 2016 run was truly incredible. Records were broken, charts were topped, and awards were won. With his success in the U.S. being the most reported, it’s easy to overlook the success he’s obtained in his own home country.
‘Views’ earned 457,000 equivalent album units in Canada, beating out Adele’s ’25’ album by almost 200,000 units. Breaking it down further, ‘Views’ earned 196,000 in album sales, 194,000 in streaming equivalent album units, and 67,000 in track equivalent album units.
Furthermore, ‘Views’ also earned the most streams for all it’s tracks. 291 million on demand streams were reported in Canada for the album, twice the amount of Justin Bieber’s ‘Purpose’ album.
Drake also lands at #1 on the best selling albums list of 2016 for Canada, making him the first Canadian to lead the list since 2004.
With ‘More Life’ on the way and The Boy Meets World Tour kicking off later this month, Drake is on his way to another amazing year!
