Yesterday Drake made his way to his second home of Houston, Texas. After stopping by Prospect Park Bar, he headed to 5th Amendment nightclub.
DJ Mr.Rogers was on the 1’s and 2’s, but of course Drake took over for a bit and played a set as well. During his time there, he jumped on the mic to talk a little bit about HAW (Houston Appreciation Weekend), the city of Houston, and Bun B. Drake teased the audience by stating he will be back for HAW weekend where he will perform at Warehouse Live on that Friday night.
Drake 1st performed at Warehouse Live back in 2009 to a sold out crowd (below) that I was actually apart of. The crowd knew all the words to his songs without the music, or Drake’s help and it is definitely one of his most memorable performances. In “Too Much” Drake speaks of this rapping, “Backstage at Warehouse in ’09 like “Is Bun coming? Fuck that, is anyone comin’ before I show up there and there’s no one there?” These days, I could probably pack it for like twenty nights if I go in there.”
Drake also talked of Houston supporting him and Bun B. treating him like family. “Rap-A-Lot for life. When nobody was fucking with me this man showed so much love, did verses for me, whatever. This man been holding it down like family, for real. This my blood. H-town is in my blood. You already know that.”
Houston Appreciation Weekend is currently set for June 13th-15th with more details to come soon. Catch the videos below of Drake speaking about HAW, Houston, and Bun B.
Update: While at Gatsby on Friday night, Drake announced additional details concerning HAW. There will be the performance at Warehouse live on Friday, a charity dinner, parties, pop up OVO store, and more! You can catch that video below as well.
