In just a matter of weeks Drake has set the internet on fire with the release of his new single “Started From The Bottom”. The song has already sprung many unofficial remixes and received a great response. Fans from all over have been sharing their reactions and expressing excitement over “Drake’s return”. This is definitely an exciting time for all fans with new music on the way and an album around the corner.
One fan has chosen to share about Drake’s new single and the anticipation for the new album. Check the article below. Words by Oscar Berkhout.
It’s been just over a year since Drake dropped an individual piece of music and the wait is finally over. “Drizzy Season” has officially started up again. “Started From The Bottom” was rumoured to drop on Grammy night, but lucky enough for us Drake took to the OVO blog to post the new single beforehand. With it being the first track from his upcoming album ‘Nothing Was The Same’, we were waiting to see what new sound Drake would return with. Additionally, with the introduction of OVO Sound and producer Mike Zombie, we were eager to hear what “Zombie On The Track” could really do. Mike has produced this new single like a seasoned, well-accomplished producer and he is still only 20 years old – there’s definitely more to come from him; good looking Drake. Drake’s flow has changed and the mood of his rapping seems to have changed, but that’s Drizzy – “Over” and “Headlines”, as well as Thank Me Later and Take Care differ from each other and so does “Started From The Bottom”. His flow is stronger than ever; his confidence is higher than ever and his ability and versatility are both higher than ever.
Drake wrote a passage accompanying the track when he first posted it on the blog:
“My good friends,
It has truly been too long. I assume you’re all keeping well and making the most of this year that has been given to us. Today is the day to begin sharing my newest work with you. This is the first single off of my upcoming album. I feel sometimes that people don’t have enough information about my beginnings and therefore they make up a life story for me that isn’t consistent with actual events. My family and my second family (consisting of the best friends anybody could ever have) all struggled and worked extremely hard to make all this happen. I did not buy my way into this spot and it was the furthest thing from easy to achieve. I am proud of every part of my past and I’m excited for this song to find a place in your life as well. I didn’t feel I needed any interviews or radio or press to launch this song. It felt right to come back to the site that I started on and release it to the people that started here with me. Judging by this post, the tour that we’ve been planning, the conversations about new songs and album artwork…I think it’s safe to say we’re back together again. Looking forward to seeing you all soon.
“You don’t have to ask me how I’m doing…Just listen to the music” – K. Samir”
We’re all keeping well now that you’ve dropped something new Drizzy. It’s a collective movement as Drake addresses us and wants to build a connection with every single one of his fans. He wants his music to be involved in our lives and he wants to share his experiences with us. As fans, that’s all we can ask for, a clear relation. The eagerness for his new album at the point is almost unbearable. As soon as we hear one song drop, we want to hear another. Drake has been doing his thing in the studio by the sounds of it, so let’s just all wait for the final product.
Aside from the single itself, the visual for “Started From The Bottom” is something special. The work that was put into the video must’ve taken a long time, but it was definitely worth it. We see Drake at his finest, enjoying life with the friends he “Started From The Bottom” with. We see both Ryan Silverstein and OB O’Brien acting in the video and also we get to see the whole crew in their element. As Drake explained in the above letter, they’re the best friends that anybody could ever have and by the looks of things, he’s not wrong. This video shows why the hip-hop world should be so excited; a long while waiting has definitely paid off, Drizzy is back and with a vengeance. There are many different shots in the visual, from Drake on his jet, to them on vacation, to them taking over a bowling alley for the night – Drake shows what he’s become: the ultimate successor. The visual fits the track perfectly and that is props to Director X and C. Papi himself.
The new album is on the way and with it being the ‘Most Anticipated Hip-Hop Album of 2013’ according to Elliott Wilson’s “The Truth”, it’s something for the entire hip-hop world to look forward to. Drake had a superb 2012 without even releasing an individual track so this is set to be his year, his time. With new music on the way and his first Grammy for Best Rap Album, it’s not just a comeback; it’s the start of a new era.
